Fr. Agnel College Library is one of the finest in Goa, especially if one considers libraries of colleges. The Library is fully computerized with the help of Koha Library Software, and has an Open Access System. All the documents in the library are bar-coded. Today, the Library holding has crossed twenty-five thousand documents which includes books, journals, bound volumes of journals, audio video compact disks, maps, project works, photographs and other resources. The library readers can also access over 6000+ e-journals, 35,000+ e-books, and other e-databases subscribed through INFLIBNET N-list.

Koha Library Management Software 

Koha is an open-source Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) used by libraries worldwide. It offers a full suite of features including cataloguing, circulation, acquisitions, serials management, and an easy-to-use Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).

At our college, Koha streamlines library operations, enhances resource accessibility, and supports both students and faculty in locating and managing academic materials efficiently. With its web-based interface and customizable features, Koha ensures a modern and user-friendly library experience.

DELNET

 

Our college is a proud subscriber to the DELNET (Developing Library Network) database, which provides access to a vast network of libraries across India and beyond. DELNET offers students and faculty a wide range of academic resources, including books, journals, theses, dissertations and articles from member libraries. Through its Inter-Library Loan (ILL) and document delivery services, DELNET facilitates seamless information sharing, supporting research, teaching, and learning. This valuable resource enhances the academic environment by making quality knowledge easily accessible to our academic community.

Library Website

The Library has its own website http://faclibrary.weebly.com from where the readers can have access to the digital resources of the Library such as question papers, curriculum, project works, power point presentations, notes and link to various subject portals and other important sources.

Library Book Club – Page_Turners

The College Library inaugurated its book club, Page_Turners, on 12th August 2024. This initiative aims to foster a love for reading among both staff and students of the College.

The key highlights of the club include monthly meet-ups, book discoveries, promotion of reading habits, and opportunities to enhance vocabulary. Page_Turners provides a vibrant platform for literary engagement and intellectual growth within the college community.

NV Access Screen Reader Software

Library has installed NV Access Screen Reader Software which reads out the screen for user & helps to provide easy browsing experience. A Separate system is allotted and headphones are provided for the users.

Braille Maps

The Library has included Braille Maps in its Collection, which includes the Map of India and World Map that can help the physically impaired students to identify the states of the Country and Continents of the World.

College library has made provision of Braille keyboard stickers for the students to have easy access to computer & browsing.

Documentation on local history and culture

The College Library under the astute leadership of Former Librarian Mr. Milind Mhamal has compiled four volumes on local history and culture of Goa. These are unique single source compilations comprising of a full text research articles. The documents can be used by the public, research scholars, students, historians and others. The books are in-house compilations of the College Library. Other than being available in the College Library, there are no reprints or copies of the same available anywhere in the same form. The compilations are as follows:

Databases

The Library has National Geographic database from 1888 to date (31 CD-ROM Set), database of previous exam question papers, and syllabi.

Kindle Paperwhite

The Library has kindle paperwhite (10th Generation). The kindle has 8 GB storage capacity which can store thousands of books. The kindle reads like paper, even in bright sunlight-with a glare-free 300 ppi display, print-quality text and built-in adjustable light. The kindle looks up words in a dictionary, learn about the character, term or concept, or view more information from Wikipedia.

Collection of Photographs on Local History and Culture

The Library has a collection of 50 special photographs on local history and culture.

Collection of Postal Stamps

The Library has a collection of 185 select postal stamps on Mahatma Gandhi.

Braille Books Section

The College Library has a collection of 30 braille books for the blind and visually challenged.

The library has 91 maps related to History and Geography.

Library Credit Programme

The Library offers the Library Credit Programme of 2 Credits of 30-hour duration. The programme aims at learning multi-disciplinary subjects. The Library training includes basic knowledge of library and information science, use of ICT technology in the library, and use of information for lifelong learning. All college students are eligible to take this credit programme (one time in their period of study). The students are expected to spend minimum 30 hours of work during free lectures, recess time or after class hours under the guidance of the College Librarian. Only those students who are able to complete 30 hours are given a certificate.

Library Training Centre

The College Library is the training hub for budding librarians. Every year students of Library Science from various parts of Goa approach the library for voluntary training/internship in the Library.

Additional Library Cards

The Library is very much known for its various best practices which includes, additional library cards for readers, i.e. Scholar Card and Social Card; while students who have scored 60% and above marks in their previous examination are given SCHOLAR CARD, students belonging to minority, SC/ST and OBC classes are given SOCIAL CARD.

Library of Things (LoT) – Far beyond Books and Journals

The library besides giving information in its traditional forms such as books, journals, or e-resources, also lend unconventional materials for its readers as a best practice in the form of “Library of Things” (LoT). At present Stapler, Scissor, U Pins, Pens, Pencils, Calculator, Punching Machine, Knife, Paper Cutting Machine, Rough paper for writing, Phone Charger, First Aid Medicine are available in the library for use and return. The Library will add more such things to the LoT’s in the future consisting of electronic gadgets, gardening equipment, seeds, kitchen collections, musical instruments, toys, art and craft, etc. through donations. The LoT’s will help in fostering the values of sharing by donating things, with the borrower saving money using very infrequently used materials, instead of purchasing them, thus curbing unnecessary expenses.  LoT’s will thus create strong communities.

Knowledge Bazaar

Knowledge Bazaar is one of the highly appreciated programmes of the Library, during which the Library exhibits various documents and artifacts for the locals and students of the neighboring schools.

The Best Library User Award is given to the student who makes the maximum use of library resources and facilities.

Full Circle – Bi-Annual Library Bulletin

Full Circle is the bi-annual publication of the College Library, showcasing various activities and initiatives conducted by the library. It serves as a comprehensive record of events, programs, and developments aimed at enriching the academic and literary environment of the College.

The Principal of the College serves as the Editor-in-Chief, while the College Librarian takes on the role of Editor of Full Circle.
